On this day 250 years ago near Neowee Creek in what is now Macon County, North Carolina, a patrol of five South Carolina militia were attacked by Cherokees. The regiment was from the New Acquisition District and commanded by Col. Thomas Neel although he was not with the five men attacked that day. Only two of the militiamen made it back to the militia camp two miles away.
I have been unable to identify the three South Carolina militiamen killed this day 250 years ago but we should remember their Service to America today.
