On this day 250 years ago in the Revolution — July 19, 1776

On this day 250 years ago in Watertown, Massachusetts, the Micmac and Maliseet tribes signed a treaty of alliance and friendship with the United States. The treaty is now known as the Treaty of Watertown.

On this day 250 years ago, George Gibson of the 1st Virginia Regiment left Fort Pitt (now Pittsburgh — then claimed by both Pennsylvania and Virginia) with Lieutenant William Linn and 15 to 25 men disguised as traders. Gibson and his men rafted down the Ohio River heading to New Orleans where they were to try and obtain gunpowder and supplies from the Spanish.
