On this day 250 years ago in the Revolution — May 22, 1776

On this day 250 years ago in Fishkill, New York, the Third Provincial Congress was organized. It continued in session until June 30, 1776. The Royal Governor of New York was on a Royal Navy ship in the harbor waiting for the British Army to restore him to power. The Third Provincial Congress of New York governed the state while he waited.

[Note to readers: I have recently subscribed to another blog that is doing a great job of posting about what was happening in the Revolution 250 years ago each day. https://substack.com/inbox/post/198686698 I don’t know how Jay Kravetz finds the time to write his blog which he seems to do each day, but I recommend it as the best way to keep track of a wide range of developments each day. I plan to focus my blog on just one event of interest to me each day and let Jay cover the big picture with his blog.]
