On this day 250 years ago in the Revolution — July 7, 1775

On this day 250 years ago in Savannah, the Georgia Provincial Congress elected Noble Wimberly Jones, Archibald Bulloch, John Houstoun, Lyman Hall and Rev. John Zubly as Delegates to the Second Continental Congress. On that same day, the armed schooner HMS Philippa and a supply ship anchored off Tybee Island, Georgia waiting for a river pilot to bring the ship into Savannah. The Philippa was armed with six guns (cannon) and the supply ship it was escorting was carrying 6.5 tons of gunpowder and 700 pounds of bullets, plus “bar-lead, sheet-lead, Indian trading guns and shot” intended for delivery to Governor Wright for use in trading with the Creek Indians.
