On this day 250 years ago in the Revolution — May 12, 1775

On this day 250 years ago in Watertown, Massachusetts, the Provincial Congress adopted “by a very large margin” Joseph Warren’s motion that the Congress submit

an application to the Continental Congress, for obtaining their recommendation for this colony to take up and exercise civil government

On this day 250 years ago at Tarpaulin Cove, Massachusetts, the HMS Falcon captures the schooners Hawke and Doctors Box, adding them to the sloop Champion that it had captured in Martha’s Vineyard Sound the previous day.

On this day 250 years ago in New York, Capt. Seth Warner of the Green Mountain Boys led 100 men in capturing the British fort at Crown Point. The small British garrison — a sergeant commanding 8 soldiers and their families — surrendered without firing a shot when they saw the size of Warner’s force. The Green Mountain Boys captured 111 cannon at Crown Point.

On this day 250 years ago at Fort Ticonderoga, Ethan Allen sent the prisoners captured at Ticonderoga and Skenesborough to Connecticut Governor Jonathan Trumbull with this message:

I make you a present of a Major, a Captain, and two Lieutenants of the regular Establishment of George the Third.
