On this day 250 years ago in the Revolution — November 30, 1774

On this day 250 years ago the freeholders of Fairfax County, Virginia hold a meeting at the Alexandria Courthouse to adopt the Continental Association. The Continental Association called for a boycott of trade with Great Britain and is scheduled to go into effect on December 1. George Washington organized the meeting but did not attend.

Also on that day 250 years ago, Thomas Paine arrives in Philadelphia from England. This new immigrant to America would make one of the most important contributions in the history of the United States only two years later.
