On this day 250 years ago in the Revolution — May 3, 1774

On this day 250 years ago, the annual Boston Town Meeting elected Boston’s representatives to the Massachusetts House. Samuel Adams was elected with 535 of the 536 votes cast. Adams was also named the moderator of the Town Meeting.

    • Ha! I’m sure it will be a surprise to just about everyone, but the rural counties and towns would have much more radical reactions to the Massachusetts Government Act and the Administration of Justice Act than did Sam Adams and the Boston Committee. Sam Adams spent most of the next year until the War began at Lexington and Concord trying to restrain the rural Massachusetts counties from taking extreme actions that would alienate the other 12 colonies.
