On this day 250 years ago in the Revolution — March 10, 1776

On this day 250 years ago, in North Carolina, an officer and eleven men of HMS Cruizer went ashore to destroy Fort Johnston, but they were driven back by Patriot forces commanded by Capt. Alfred Moore probably reinforced by a small detachment of the Brunswick County Regiment of Militia. There were no reported losses on either side.

Sunday evening…A most terrible and incessant cannonade from half after eight till six this morning. I hear we lost four men killed and some wounded in attempting to take the hill nearest the town, called Nook’s Hill.
