On this day 250 years ago in the Revolution — August 6, 1775

On this day 250 years, Captain Daniel Morgan’s company of Virginia riflemen arrived in Cambridge, Massachusetts and reported to General Washington at the completion of their famous “Beeline March” from Winchester, Virginia. Morgan’s company of 96 riflemen had marched over 484 miles in 21 days, an amazing pace of 23 miles per day. Morgan’s riflemen in their hunting shirts in lieu of normal uniforms and sharpshooting skills greatly impressed the people of Massachusetts and their fellow soldiers in the Continental Army. But they also greatly distressed General Washington with their riotous behavior and repeated demonstration of their shooting skills wasting gunpowder while Washington was focused on every means possible to obtain more powder.
