On this day 250 years ago in New York City, Scottish immigrant Alexander MacDougall was commissioned as Colonel of the 1st New York Regiment and began organizing his regiment. The captain of the Regiment’s 1st Company was Frederick von Weissenfels, who was an immigrant from Prussia. Marinus Willet was named Captain of the 2nd Company. MacDougall would become a Major General and Willet a Colonel in the Continental Army and Weissenfels a Lieutenant Colonel in the New York Militia. All three would have distinguished service in the War.

On this day 250 years ago, George Washington and his aides were riding through Connecticut on their way to the Siege of Boston. They spent the night at the Beers Tavern in New Haven.
