On this day 250 years ago in Philadelphia, Peyton Randolph resigned from the Continental Congress to return to Virginia to be Speaker of the Virginia House of Burgesses and President of the Virginia Convention. John Hancock of Massachusetts was unanimously to succeed Randolph as President of the Continental Congress.
