On this day 250 years ago in the Revolution — November 16, 1774

On this day 250 years ago in Boston, the Committee of Ways and Means wrote to the Litchfield, Connecticut Committee of Correspondence regarding the need for additional relief for the people of Boston suffering under the British Navy’s blockade:

We flatter ourselves our friends will continue to support our industrious tradesmen, many of whom are obliged to mortgage their little habitations, and others to sell their plate and furniture for the maintenance of their families. Unhappy Boston, to what miserable circumstances art thou reduced

Also on this day in Rehoboth, Massachusetts, Captain Philip Wheeler of the Rehoboth Militia was mortally wounded by an accidental shooting during the training of his company. We should remember that Captain Wheeler gave his life for American Independence before the War for Independence even began.
