On this day 250 years ago in the Revolution — June 25, 1774

On this day 250 years ago in Annapolis, Maryland the first session of the Annapolis Convention concluded. After Royal Governor Eden dissolved the Maryland Colonial Assembly, 92 members of the Assembly representing all 16 counties in Maryland organized themselves as a Convention that began meeting in Annapolis on June 22. During the four days of its initial session the Annapolis Convention elected Matthew Tilghman as its Chairman, elected delegates to the first Continental Congress, passed resolutions opposing the closure of the Port of Boston and supporting a non-importation agreement of British goods, ordered supplies to be sent to Boston, established a permanent Committee of Correspondence, and agreed to meet in further conventions. Starting with this session, the Annapolis Convention when in session and the Committee of Correspondence between sessions, became the effective government of Maryland supplanting the authority of the Royal Governor.
