On this day 250 years ago in the Revolution — June 20, 1774

On this day 250 years ago, the citizens ofFrederick County, Maryland, met at Frederick County Court House in support of the besieged citizens of Boston. The meeting was chaired by John Hanson, who would in 1781 at the end of the Revolution be elected as President of the Confederation Congress (which was the highest ranking elected official in the United States although not equivalent to the President under the Constitution), and adopted the Frederick Resolves that provided wholehearted support to Boston’s demand for a trade embargo against Great Britain.

Also on this day the Boston Evening Post published a brief article stating

It seems now to the general Sense of the Continent, that a CONGRESS of Deputies of all the American Governments, be held as soon as possible, in order to concert effectual Measures for defeating the despotic Designs of those who are endeavoring our Ruin.
