On this day 250 years ago, Hugh Mercer of Fredericksburg, Virginia wrote George Washington ofering to buy the farm in Fredericksburg where Washington’s mother lived and where Washington had grown up. At the Battle of Princeton less than three years later General Mercer would be mortally wounded leading the initial charge against the British line and Washington would miraculously emerge unscathed leading the subsequent charge that swept the British from the field.

Cool – you know the statute in the middle of Washington Circle portrays Washington’s fearlessness at the battle of Princeton.
Thanks for these posts and I hope all is well with you and Pat

Hi Frank, I did check out your site. I need to do your self-guided tour. I confess that I am completely unfamiliar with those streets even though I have driven past them a million times. Did you and Denise move from Arlington to Foggy Bottom? By the way here is my upcoming tour — https://patch.com/virginia/arlington-va/calendar/event/20240427/d0b7243e-93fb-477f-b491-86d65baa888f/george-washington-s-forest-history-walk

Your tour looks great! I am sorry I can’t join you. I never thought of Arlington as GW’s Forest, Yes, we are Foggy Bottom residents now.
