On this day 250 years ago in Savannah, the Georgia House of Commons passed a resolution asserting that the power to appoint an agent for Georgia in London is a “right and priviledge which is and ought to be exclusively lodged in the Representatives of the People” rather than the Royal Governor or the Georgia upper house. The resolution then announced the reappointment of Benjamin Franklin as Georgia’s agent with a salary of “£150 Sterling money of Great Britain . . . over and above his Charges and disbursements.”

I learn a lot from your posts. Ben Franklin never lived in Georgia. This means the colonies placed no restrictions on the where their representatives lived. He apparently represented New Jersey and Massachusetts also even though he lived in Pennsylvania. Thanks.
